Shemini Atzeret – the Eighth Day of the biblical Seven-Day Festival of Succot

Today is the celebration of the Feast of Shemini Atzeret – the Eighth Day of the biblical Seven-Day Festival of Succot (Booths, Tabernacles).

In the wilderness, God “Tabernacled” in the midst of His people.

Leviticus 23: 23 Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 34 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the Lord. 35 On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work of any kind. 36 For seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the LordOn the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to theLord; it is an assembly. You shall do no laborious work.

37 ‘These are the appointed times of the Lord which you shall proclaim as holy convocations, to present offerings by fire to the Lord—burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, each day’s matter on its own day— 38 besides those of the sabbaths of the Lord, and besides your gifts and besides all your f]”[f]votive and freewill offerings, which you give to the Lord.
39 On exactly the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the crops of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of the Lord for seven days, with a g]”[g]rest on the first day and a h]”[h]rest on the eighth day. 40 Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the i]”[i]foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.41 You shall thus celebrate it as a feast to the Lord for seven days in the year. It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 You shall j]”[j]live in booths for seven days; all the native-born in Israel shall k]”[k]live in booths, 43 so that your generations may know that I had the sons of Israel live in booths when I brought them out from the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’” 44 So Moses declared to the sons of Israel the appointed times of the Lord.

My thoughts on Shemini Atzeret (the eighth day of the seven-day festival of Succot) is that following the Thousand Year Millennial Reign of Yeshua over all of the earth – ruling and reigning from Jerusalem – and after the White Throne Judgement, the fulfillment of Shemini Atzeret (the day that never ends) will take place.

When the New Jerusalem comes down out of heaven,
God will tabernacle with those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life for ETERNITY!!.

Revelation 21:1-4  (NASB)

The New Heaven and Earth

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will a]”[a]dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among themb]”[b], and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

Revelation 21:10-27  (NASB)

The New Jerusalem

10 And he carried me away g]”[g]in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God. Her h]”[h]brilliance was like a very costly stone, as a stone of crystal-clear jasper.12 i]”[i]It had a great and high wall, j]”[j]with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west. 14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 The one who spoke with me had a k]”[k]gold measuring rod to measure the city, and its gates and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the l]”[l]rod, m]”[m]fifteen hundred miles; its length and width and height are equal. 17 And he measured its wall, n]”[n]seventy-two yards, according to human o]”[o]measurements, which are also angelic measurements. 18 The material of the wall was jasper; and the city was pure gold, like p]”[p]clear glass. 19 The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald; 20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
22 I saw no q]”[q]temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its r]”[r]temple. 23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth s]”[s]will bring their glory into it. 25 In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed; 26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27 and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those t]”[t]whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.Have a joyful Shemini Atzeret!!!  Despite all the evil that is taking place on in the earth today, REJOICE!!  The best is yet to come…Shalom!!

The Feasts of Israel – Do they have prophetic significance?

Origin and Timing of the Feasts

The feasts were a part of the Mosaic Law that was given to the Children of Israel by God through Moses (Exodus 12; 23:14-17; Leviticus 23; Numbers 28 & 29; and Deuteronomy 16). The Jewish nation was commanded by God to celebrate seven feasts over a seven month period of time, beginning in the Spring of the year and continuing through the Fall.

The first three feasts: Passover, Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits, occur in rapid succession in the Spring of the year over a period of eight days. They came to be referred to collectively as “Passover.”

The fourth feast: Harvest, occurs fifty days later at the beginning of the Summer. By New Covenant times this feast had come to be known as Pentecost, from the Greek word pentekonta, meaning fifty, the feminine is pentekoste.

The last three feasts: Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles extend over a period of twenty-one days in the Fall of the year. These are known as the “High Holy Days.”

The Nature of the Feasts

Some of the feasts were related primarily to the agricultural cycle. The feast of First Fruits was a time for the presentation to God of the first fruits of the barley harvest. The feast of Harvest was a celebration of the wheat harvest. And the feast of Tabernacles was in part a time of thanksgiving for the harvest of olives, dates, and figs.

Most of the feasts were related to past historical events. Passover, of course, celebrated the salvation the Jews experienced when the LORD passed over the Jewish houses that were marked with the blood of a lamb. Unleavened Bread was a reminder of the swift departure from Egypt so swift that they had no time to put leaven into their bread.

Although the feasts of Harvest and Tabernacles were related to the agricultural cycle, they both had historical significance as well. The Jews believed that it was on the feast day of Harvest that God gave the Law to Moses on Mt. Sinai. And Tabernacles was a yearly reminder of God’s protective care as the Children of Israel tabernacled in the wilderness for forty years.

The Spiritual Significance of the Feasts

All the feasts were, and are, unto the LORD. They served to tum- yank! -the people from the pagan Egyptian ways they’d been surrounded by and so greatly influenced by, to set the Hebrews apart from all of the pagan peoples on the earth. Thus, the Feasts of Israel are all about the spiritual life of the people. Passover served as a reminder that there is no atonement for sin apart from the shedding of blood. (Lev. 17: 11) Unleavened Bread was a reminder of God’s call on their lives to be a people set apart to holiness, as leaven was a symbol of sin. They were to be unleavened, that is, holy, before the nations as a witness of God, as Yeshua is the Unleavened Bread of Life.

The feast of First Fruits was a call to consider their priorities, to make certain they were putting God first in their lives. Harvest was a reminder that God is the source of all blessings. The assembly day of Trumpets informs us of the Rapture to come, and of the LORD Yeshua’s Second coming! The Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, was, and is, a reminder of the need for repentance, and was, and is, also a solemn assembly day, a day of rest and introspection. It was a reminder of God’s promise to send a Messiah whose blood would cover the demands of the Law with the mercy of God.

In sharp contrast to the Day of Atonement, Tabernacles was, and is, a joyous celebration of God’s faithfulness, even when the Children of Israel were unfaithful.

The Prophetic Significance of the Feasts

What the Jewish people did not seem to realize is that all of the feasts were also symbolic types. In other words, they were prophetic in nature, each one pointing in a unique way to some aspect of the life and work of the promised Messiah.

1) Passover – Pointed to the Messiah as our Passover Lamb Whose blood would be shed for our sins. Jesus was crucified on the day of preparation for the Passover, at the same time that the lambs were being slaughtered for the Passover meal that evening.

2) Unleavened Bread – Pointed to the Messiah’s sinless life, making Him the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus’ body was in the grave during the first days of this feast, like a kernel of wheat planted and waiting to burst forth as the bread of life.

3) First Fruits – Pointed to the Messiah’s resurrection as the first fruits of the righteous. Jesus was resurrected on this very day, which is one of the reasons that Paul refers to Him in Corinthians 15:20 as the “first fruits from the dead.”

4) Harvest or Pentecost – (Called Shavuot today.) Pointed to the great harvest of souls, both Jew and Gentile, that would come into the kingdom of God during the Church Age. The Church was actually established on this day when the Messiah poured out the Holy Spirit and 3,000 souls responded to Peter’s first proclamation of the Gospel.

The long interval of three months between Harvest and Trumpets pointed to the current Church Age, a period of time that was kept as a mystery to the Hebrew prophets in Old Covenant times. That leaves us with the three Fall feasts which are yet to be fulfilled in the life and work of the Messiah. Because Yeshua literally fulfilled the first four feasts and did so on the actual feast days, I think it is probable that the last three will also be fulfilled on the actual feast days.

5) Trumpets – (Called Rosh Hashana today.) Points to the Rapture when the Messiah will appear in the heavens as a Bridegroom coming for His bride, the Church. The Rapture is always associated in Scripture with the blowing of a loud trumpet (I Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:52)

6) Atonement – (Called Yom Kippur today.) Points to the day of the Second Coming of Jesus when He will return to earth. That will be the day of atonement for the Jewish remnant when they “look upon Him whom they have pierced,” repent of their sins, and receive Him as their Messiah (Zechariah 12:10 and Romans 11:1-6, 25-36).

7) Tabernacles – (Called Sukkot today.) Points to the Lord’s promise that He will once again tabernacle with His people when He returns to reign over all the world from Jerusalem (Micah 4: 1-7). I believe it is correct to understand that Biblically, the LORD was probably conceived at Hanukkah, during the Winter Solstice, and delivered 287 days later, at full human gestation, at Tabernacles.

Media Don’t Get It: Rockets Essentially Kill Gazans

Media So Insensitive As to Look Like Fools The video below is an example how a news commentator clearly and completely misses the point.  So much so, one has to wonder if this isn’t subtle anti-Semitism … after all, the rockets fly overhead in the interview …

What Is the Full Story Here! The media at large play up what we agree is a sad loss of innocent people in Gaza BUT without reporting the real and full tragedy … the stupidity of hatred and the rocketeers themselves.  Pure hatred sends the rockets and the defense of Israel is slanted as a culprit.  Hard to believe that the media don’t realize that thinking people are shocked by the lack of real reporting … but then sensationalism sells more than truth!

Please pray the fighting stops … but then again since the chronology of future biblical events leads to a very different resolution of the fighting, no one here is surprised by the hatred in the ranks of Hamas  (whose days are numbered).

Update: July 27 US President appeals to Israel to stop shooting at Gaza. Even during cease fire Hamas shoots off hundreds of rockets. Israel resumes responding and ends the unilateral cease fire, because the rockets keep coming. So we say: “Obama you have got to be kidding! If someone kept shelling the US, what would you do?”

Rocket Town

We recently came across a video that represents what it is really like in Israel where rockets land.

This report filmed in 2012 tells a story of deaths and injuries so often left unreported while the world is shown images of people in Gaza suffering from Israel’s responses.  Bottom line is no one should have to suffer rockets or bombs … but many times Israel’s retaliations end up as reports of aggression and the media do not balance the reporting.

VIDEO HERE  ( <– link )

The best we can do is to ask you to watch this video and realize the entire exchange of weapons is needless … and yet this is a reflection of something deeper and the conflict will keep going until God’s hand ends the unrest.

Also, while many rockets are now being intercepted by Israel’s ‘Iron Dome,’ the cost of antimissile missiles is a drain on Israel’s economy and the sirens still blast alerts that require citizens to dash to bomb shelters.  The trauma of interrupting one’s daily routine, multiple times a day, is an emotional wound suffered across the populace att large.

Signs of Tribulation Coming in Proximity to Today

From the 1973 edition of Hal Lindsey’s book (There’s A New World Coming) we find the following list of signs of these times leading to the biblical period known as the tribulation—a.k.a. Great Tribulation, Time of Jacob’s Trouble, Day of the Lord. After the following block quote, we can make a few added comments to update this list … but please note how remarkable this listing truly is, from from over forty years ago, in light of recent events from the year 2000 to the present!

“Many of these predicted signs are amplified in various chapters of the Book of Revelation. Here I’m simply going to list them to get them focused in our minds as a group.

1. The return of the dispersed Jews to Israel to become a nation again in 1948.
2. The Jews’ recapture of the Old City of Jerusalem in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.
3. The rise of Russia as a powerful nation and enemy of Israel.
4. The Arab confederation against the new State of Israel.
5. The rise of a military power in the Orient that can field an army of 200 million soldiers. (Red China alone boasts that she has this number of troops!)
6. The revival of the old Roman Empire in the form of a ten-nation confederacy.
(I believe the European Common Market is ultimately going to be this power.)
7. The revival of the dark occultic practices of ancient Babylon.
8. The unprecedented turn to drugs.
9. The increase of international revolution.
10. The increase of wars.
11. The increase of earthquakes.
12. The increase of famines through the population explosion.
13. The coming of plagues.
14. The increase of pollution.
15. The departure of many Christian churches from the historic truths of Clnistianity.
16. The move toward one-world religion.
17. The move toward a one-world government.
18. The decline of the United States as a major world power.
19. The increase in lawlessness.
20. The decline of the family unit.”

For number 3 it seems almost prophetic in its own right that Russia during 1973 was far different as the USSR, but even today the Russia we see is even now still trending against Israel.

We are left uncertain about point 5 because the biblical text may not be speaking of a literal human army from China, but all the same, today China factors into a shifting global power structure that plays right into point number 18.

For 6, we note that many followed this prediction about Europe, but the biblical text speaks of the world, not just a localized block of nations. So, stay tuned, global trade and regional powers across the globe may well be the ten kingdoms spoken of in the scriptural text and that may parallel a global empire like that of ancient Rome.

Point 8, both pharmaceuticals, extensive use of opioids for pain relief and addictions of same, as well as legalization and broad use of marijuana—aside from continued heroin and crack usage … all this exists today well above the levels of abuse in 1973.

Climate change, no matter the source or reason, now brings increasing floods and droughts, all of which damage the global harvests (point 12).

Point 15, the recent acceptance of behaviors and changes in church policies across many denominations speaks of non-biblical traits that compromise the faith and the community within.

We could write more about the listing above, but the one added point we will contribute follows:

The last book in the Bible also speaks of souls and buying, selling, and thus owning. Like slavery before, today we see human trafficking and people fleeing tyranny and strife at a price, only to find they are indentured and captive to overlords and insensitive handlers. What is this world that souls are so abused?

How do you see this list? Might these be signs of a world so wrapped in itself as to bring us to the threshold of future biblical events. And if a chronology of events is already known from Scripture, would it not be wise to consider and discern the relevance of what is described there … now!

Hal Lindsey on the Rapture

“It’s important to note that the Church has been the main ·theme of the Revelation until Chapter 4. Starting with this chapter, the Church isn’t seen on earth again until Chapter 19, where we suddenly find it returning to earth with Christ as He comes to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The big question is: ” Where is the Church during the earthly devastation described in Chapters 6 through 19, and how did it get wherever it is?”

CONSPICUOUS BY ITS ABSENCE

As I said earlier, the Church is mentioned nineteen times in the first three chapters of the Book of Revelation and isn’t mentioned once. as being on earth from Chapters 4 through 19! And it’s in these chapters that the great outpouring of God’s wrath is described in detail!

It’s also very interesting that in Chapters 2 and 3 we read ” He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” repeated seven times, while in Chapter 13 we see: ” If anyone has an ear, let him hear.” This is the same warning except that the church is left out! It seems unthinkable that God would omit mention of the Church if it were still on earth during these devastating judgments.”

There’s a New World Coming, 1973, page 61

WHAT KIND OF EAR DO WE HAVE TODAY

Taking a hint from Mr. Lindsey, the data and evidence in the text tells us something ‘key’ if we pay attention. The book published in the 1970s was a run away best seller and led many a reader through the evidence and implications of prophetic Scripture. Today the news fits the examples of his writings four decades ago. As the moral landscape changes in the world today, those who remain behind are a growing proportion of the global population. What will happen to you on the day believers are lifted into the heavens?

MORE WAR CLOUDS GATHER OVER TENSE MIDDLE EAST

April 1 Release

By David Dolan

Armed attacks upon the world’s only Jewish state escalated sharply during March, coming from both the northern and southern border regions. For the first time in over 40 years, Israeli air force jets struck several Syrian Army military positions after four Israeli soldiers, including a battalion deputy commander, were wounded in a border attack that the IDF said was launched by Syrian soldiers stationed on the tense Golan Heights. One week later, two Syrian infiltrators were shot and wounded as they tried to penetrate the Golan border fence.

Earlier in the month in the south, Iranian-backed Palestinian Muslim terrorists once again fired nearly 100 rockets at Israeli civilian communities near the Gaza Strip. One landed just outside of a library in the often attacked Israeli town of S’derot. It was the largest barrage of rockets to be fired in the same timeframe since Israel fought a six day battle with the radical Hamas movement in November 2012.

The Israeli Air Force was quickly ordered into action, hitting a number of rocket shooting positions and other targets connected to the Islamic Jihad group, which said it carried out at least most of the rocket assaults. As they have done several times before as rocket attacks escalated over the past year, Israeli government officials warned that a major military incursion into the small Palestinian coastal zone might become necessary if the shootings continued, prompting the Gaza Strip’s Hamas rulers to put at least a temporary halt to the sustained firings.

As fierce fighting continued to envelop neighboring Syria, the embattled Assad regime made more gains against its multifaceted Sunni Arab Muslim opponents during the month, recapturing a strategic town near the border with Lebanon with the help of Iran’s surrogate Shiite Lebanese Hizbullah militia force. This came as the regime continued to drag its feet on commitments made to the United Nations last year to hand over all of its huge chemical weapons arsenal to international control and destruction. Israeli leaders are said to be worried that the chemical weapons deal may fall entirely apart in the coming weeks and months, since Syria’s main big power ally, Russia, is now at loggerheads with much of the world after Vladimir Putin invaded portions of the country of Georgia during March.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met once again with American President Barrack Obama during the month in Washington, with discussions reportedly focusing on faltering peace talks with the Palestinian Authority, the war in Syria and Iran’s nuclear program. The meetings came just a couple weeks before a deadline set by the PA last summer for suspending the talks if they did not make any tangible progress by the end of March. Meanwhile the Israeli government decided to postpone the fourth and final round of Palestinian prisoner releases that was due to be held on March 29. The four stage release was agreed upon last year as part of the peace talk’s resumption, prompting outrage from Palestinian leader who issued more threats that a new terrorist attrition war may be on the horizon if the release did not take place.

Meanwhile PA leader Mahmoud Abbas reiterated his hard line position that the Palestinians will never recognize Israel as a Jewish state—a basic requirement spelled out by Israeli leaders for many years if there is to be a final peaceful resolution of this portion of the wider Arab-Muslim conflict, which has morphed in recent decades into a struggle with non-Arab Iran and its allies. Further sinking the always extremely slim prospects that an American-brokered peace treaty could be ironed out sometime this year, the Arab League subsequently formally endorsed the PA’s rejectionist stand.

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon got into more hot water during March after he delivered a speech in which he termed President Obama’s response to the so-called “Arab Spring” regional upheaval, and the recent Russian invasion of Crimea, as “feeble.” He noted that widely perceived growing American weakness in the region can only spell ill for Israel. This came as Egypt’s military leaders finalized a major arms deal with Moscow that will provide the large Arab country with some of Russia’s most advances weapons systems, said media reports from Cairo.

Senior Iranian government leaders praised their Palestinian allies for lashing out at Israel. Defense Minister General Hossein Dehqan said that Iranian weapons shipments, training and financial aid had left Palestinian militiamen in the Gaza Strip “a thousand times more powerful than they were before.” This came as the country’s Foreign Minister predicted that international talks to curb the regime’s rogue nuclear production will fail to reach that goal.

NO PEACE in MAY …

The following excerpts from news posted at Watch.org are very telling … with respect that no peace pact will come to Israel in March, or April, or May … and frankly, those who have read the Scriptures know what to look for … we are told there the peace pact will be a seven year covenant in a time when Israel lives without walls … NO PEACE, NO WAY, until then.  Also of interest is Putin’s apparent desire to grater power and with access to strategic territories taht will only make it easier to move forces to the south … Gog and Magog … is that it?

Stay tuned, because if you really think about it, humanity is not about living in peace, stewardship, or extending the prospects for life on earth … why?  Because everyone has some sort of material or national agenda … and that is why we say information from both science and scripture have relevance … so visit WindowView for more on that, but for now … WHAT do the following headlines tell you!

Susan Rice to Netanyahu: Only two-state solution can bring peace with Palestinians

Not reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran is preferable to signing a bad accord, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Wednesday, soon after meeting with visiting US National Security Advisor Susan Rice.  Rice arrived in the country earlier in the day as part of a high-level US delegation. Members of the delegation came to consult with their Israeli counterparts about Iran and other strategic issues prior to another round of talks between the P5+1 and Iran in Vienna next week, and as work went on to formulate a final nuclear deal. Following the Rice meeting – a meeting the Prime Minister’s Office was not willing to discuss – Netanyahu met with a delegation from the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF). The brief statement issued about that meeting made the gist of Netanyahu’s message to Rice clear.

Meeting Abbas, Rice outlines ‘constructive’ path forward for peace with Israel

Any power-sharing Palestinian government must recognize the state of Israel, renounce violence and adhere to previous agreements, whether it includes Hamas or not, US National Security Advisor Susan Rice told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during their meeting in Ramallah on Thursday.  According to the White House, Rice made “clear… the principles that must guide a Palestinian government in order for it to play a constructive role in achieving peace and building an independent Palestinian state.”

“She reiterated US policy that any Palestinian government must unambiguously and explicitly commit to nonviolence, recognition of the State of Israel, and acceptance of previous agreements and obligations between the parties,” the White House said in a statement after the meeting.

US envoy Indyk insists peace process not dead

Washington’s top negotiator criticizes both sides for failed talks, saying Netanyahu was ‘flexible’ despite approving settlements.  While delivering scathing condemnations of the behavior of both sides, Washington’s chief negotiator in the recent Israeli-Palestinian talks denied Thursday that the peace process was over.  In his most revealing comments since the breakdown of talks, Ambassador Martin Indyk recounted Thursday evening how, after six months of productive direct negotiations, Palestinian leaders “shut down” and singled out settlement activity as a major – but not the sole – factor.

“We have passed the nine-month marker for these negotiations, and for the time being the talks have been suspended,” Indyk said, addressing the Washington Institute for Near East Policy’s Weinberg Founders Conference in Washington DC. “Some have said this process is over. But that is not correct. As my little story testifies. As you all know well— in the Middle East, it’s never over.”

Roads blocked, schools closed as freak rains flood country, flash floods from Eilat to the Dead Sea

Unseasonable storm wreaks havoc in south; flash floods reported from Eilat to Dead Sea.  Schools near the Dead Sea were shut and several roads in the area were blocked by authorities Thursday morning as a rare tropical storm dumped rain across the country causing flash floods and wreaking havoc in the south of the country.  Wednesday night and Thursday morning saw heavy rains and thunderstorms across the country, a rare occurrence so late into the spring. The rain brought dry riverbeds to life, flooding low-lying areas, especially in the Judean Desert and Negev in the south of the country. By Thursday morning the city of Arad reported 44 millimeters of rain had fallen from the storm, 40 times the average for this time of year, according to the Israel Meteorological Service. Jerusalem saw 32 millimeters, Beersheba 24 millimeters and Ra’anana 45 millimeters. Tel Aviv, however, only saw 15 millimeters.

Top Netanyahu aide: Here’s proof Abbas deliberately destroyed peace talks

Putin oversees Russian Nuclear forces exercise

President Vladimir Putin on Thursday oversaw a military exercise involving Russia’s nuclear forces amid escalating tensions over Ukraine.  While Putin said the exercise had been planned back in November, it comes as relations between Russia and the West have plunged to their lowest point since the Cold War over Ukraine.  Putin, speaking from the Defense Ministry’s headquarters where he oversaw the exercise along with leaders of several ex-Soviet nations which are members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, said that the maneuvers involved the military across the entire Russian territory, including the nation’s nuclear forces.  Russian news wires said that the exercises simulated dealing a massive retaliatory nuclear strike in response to an enemy attack. The description of the exercise is unusually blunt, reflecting tensions with the West running high over Ukraine.

Putin says Russian troops pull back from Ukraine border

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed Wednesday that his military had pulled back from the Ukrainian border — but a top Pentagon official told Fox News that the U.S. military had not seen any changes in the deployment of Russian forces.  Putin also urged pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine to postpone Sunday’s referendum on secession. Putin said Russian troops had pulled back to training grounds and locations for “regular exercises,” but didn’t specify whether those locations were in areas near Ukraine.

Putin Warns of Growing Militant Nationalism, Nazi Ideology in Europe

NATO’s top military commander in Europe said on Monday he no longer thought regular Russian troops would enter eastern Ukraine, predicting Moscow could achieve its goals through the unconventional forces stirring up trouble there.  U.S. air force Gen. Philip Breedlove said it was a completely false Russian narrative that it was only Ukrainians rebelling in the east of their country, saying it was clear that special forces troops from Russia were operating there as they did in Crimea before its annexation.  “Remember that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin denied their presence and now he has admitted to their presence in Crimea. The same thing will come out of Ukraine as time rolls out,” he told a military and diplomatic audience in Ottawa.

Pew Global Survey: Public Backs Putin, Crimea’s Secession, Putin is overwhelmingly popular

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s handling of the crisis in Ukraine has met with considerable opposition in Western nations and much of the international community, as well as in Ukraine itself, but Russians have largely rallied around their leader. Putin is overwhelmingly popular, and Russian national pride appears to be on the rise. In fact, a plurality thinks Putin’s handling of the crisis has improved Russia’s international stature.  A large majority of Russians believe the recent referendum in Crimea was free and fair, and that Kyiv (Kiev) should accept the results and allow Crimea to join Russia. Crimea is only one of Russia’s territorial grievances, and as they have in previous surveys, a majority of Russians say they believe there are parts of neighboring countries that really belong to Russia.  Meanwhile, tensions with the West have led to a dramatic spike in negative views about the U.S. and the European Union. Similarly, both U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are held in low regard.

How Do You Respond to Isaiah?

Sitting at your window on life what do you see? As you review history past and the implications for the future … just watching the nightly news or reading the newspapers or blogs.
