Thesis: Change
A WindowView thesis is a proposition stated for consideration and is intended to be discussed and maintained against objections by a sound defense.
The real message to change is not a question of human survival now, but a message challenging us to look beyond our material, temporal existence.
Thesis on Change: The main point to mentioning change in the window is simple. Science data reveal the complex immensity to a global material issue. A biblical perspective tells us that as we head to the end of the current age we will face a material-spiritual dilemma. Within the window, therefore, we say it's not just a human need to address survival, but an overall issue to understanding the purpose to life. The material challenge is a reflection of a more significant internal challenge on purpose and seeing the future. The bible's chronology of events, those yet to come, will arrive intermixed with change issues. We are merely looking at combined information sources. The scenario ahead is therefore even more complex than many want to think. But then that's why this window is here ... to get us to think beyond the material! That is the thesis put forward here.
HUMANITY struggles to find an accord and immediately work toward countering change ... it's a war in slow motion and inaction leads to lost battle after lost battle ... meanwhile a 'sustainable planet' slides down a slippery slope and fades out of sight. The debate goes on and on. Crisis comes.
What then is the point of life and the design of this wondrous place in the cosmos?! Might the window challenge you to look at life with a new perspective?
But add back what the window reveals concerning life and what Scripture contributes about human nature, and we think you'll agree, temporal change and even heightened stress on Earth does nothing to resolve one's eternal disposition. Even stewardship for the survival of future generations still leaves them with the same eternal choice. Change now is just added punctuation!
Based on scientific evidence for life's existence by design and the zipping of current world events together with the biblical chronology, we turn to a spiritual, non-materialistic, more eternal perspective. The window makes this possible.
In this context we will find humans caught up in the debate over climate change. So what? Who is responsible? Is it a matter of human driven or geological change? What is the difference?
At the end of the day, adherents to a material naturalism will only see change as a survival issue. But if life now leads to something beyond the present experience, then change begs us to look beyond any immediate crisis. Change offers us a moment to think and choose.
Activists for green or environmental movements 'kick into high gear' when it comes to climate or global changes. The window view likewise recognizes that stewardship is a true blessing to all that nature embraces. Stewardship of the material-creature comforts on Earth, however, is not the point of our focus here.
Change is a messenger that appears to deliver a threat to our material well being.
THE MAIN POINT however is simple. You have to admit that you are part of a generation that simply will be replaced by a next generation. And further, the Earth and Sun are part of a universe that is on a one way path ... via entropy and an eventual cold dark conclusion ... so
Change is an immense issue that is like a complex fabric, a multidimensional matrix of interwoven issues. To counter change would really require human cooperation of an order never before seen on this planet! For those who already understand the immense challenge placed before humanity, we say consider the window thesis on change.
For those who have yet to comprehend the larger dimensions ... consider a short list of issues to just get a feel for how huge a challenge the world faces:
Invasive species that disturb the ecology in distant places
Loss of biodiversity (extinction of species without replacement)
Temperature change (Warming globally, cooling in some areas)
Population (increase with the expectation of continued human material advancement)
Resource depletion (mining, burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, etc.)
Human needs: Security, health, food, freedoms
Loss of indigenous peoples, lore, languages
Migration from agricultural lands to cities
Conflicts over resources (water, arable land, etc)
Glaciers lost, diminishing snow pack, desertification
Oceans: Fish stocks depleted, waters grow acidic, warmer temp., loss of corals, global currents on the verge of shutting down
Air: Increasing greenhouse gases (CO2, methane, etc)
Water: Fresh water is a teaspoon compared to a bucket of salty non potable water on earth.
Forests: Devastation by cutting, burning, or the introduction of non-native species (invasives) not only threaten rain forests, but temperate land forests on a truly global scale.
Planet Health: short of an ecological collapse, a sustainable planet that can continue to host life
AND MORE ... that you find described in the newspapers, on TV, and elsewhere ... it's so much information as to be "too much information." Can humanity handle it?
The list above is a whisper of all the things we might list. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has taken many years to assemble reports on change around the world. Their listing of factors is massive, the reports are filled with chapters that go into so much detail, the issues are ever more complex. The network of issues and interrelationships between issues reveals an awesome and ominous set of problems.
The window offers different perspectives and here are two contrasts to consider:
First, the Earth at one time was entirely pristine. A human migrating from Asia to the North American continent, back in the day of 'Clovis Man,' would walk into a land where no humans lived. The plants, animals, and all ecological relationships set in place a balance. That was a coordinated self regulating environment that today humans have disturbed. Today, this disturbance is at a peak. When you hear politicians and global organizations begging for a coordinated response ... ask yourself: Is it happening? Will it happen?
Second, the biblical chronology speaks of a one world government. There are spiritual reasons for this scenario becoming reality, but on a material stage, one might think it finally justifiable to have global coordination to respond to global change. That seems an underlying rationale for complying with such a global governance. But other perspectives within the window demonstrate the material struggle to survive is only a superficial issue. Change itself asks us, begs us, too look at life in the fuller sense. The global governing body will be headed by a single leader. What motive that person has is a real issue for further consideration. And this too is the reason for this window.
We are promised that one day the earth will be renewed ... and would we not marvel at being able to walk this place in its pristine state! What a marvel that will be. The final section of the window time line helps to address the series of events that are yet to come.
The window thesis is that change is a reflection of ourselves and comes at a time to get us thinking about life and our future. Consider this reflection as you think about the perspectives in the other areas of the window.

The importance to global change is in looking at how social, biological, and physical sciences all reveal data and signs for more ominous changes in the near future. This is change in every aspect of human and earthly affairs ... globally. The Window looks further to see change as a backdrop to a biblical timeline. Driving forces for change force us to ask the most important questions about our true origin, who we are, why we are here, and what the Scriptures tell us about the future. Change forces us to look deeper to face choice or crisis. Life is an opportunity to look for the answers.
